Shedding New Light on Jewish Traditions

Summer Mussar

Summer Mussar (ethics based on Jewish texts) will be taking place for the 13th consecutive year at Or Hadash (on Zoom once more). These biweekly sessions are intended to be both maintenance for ongoing Mussar students as well as an introduction to Mussar for new students. This summer we will again be studying “Morality” by the late Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. The book describes how to lead a more meaningful life through accepting our responsibilities to others, to society, and to humanity. For those who wish to read ahead, we will start by continuing with Chapter 7, and then cover one chapter each class. The book is available from for about $13 (Kindle) or $19 (hardcover).

The sessions will take place on Zoom from 7:30-9:30 P.M. every other Tuesday, starting June 13. The dates are 6/13, 6/27, 7/11, 7/25, and 8/8. Please let me know by May15 if you plan to attend one or more sessions, and I will provide a Zoom link. No prior Mussar knowledge is needed, and attendance is not necessary at all sessions to benefit from the program, since each session will be stand-alone. I will lead the first meeting and then depend on volunteers to lead the remaining four. There is no fee for the program.

Please contact me, Marty Jacobs (, for the Zoom link and if you have any questions.
