International Holocaust Remembrance Day Event that took place on Friday January 26th at Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park. The Shir KI Choir, conducted by Chazzan David Tillman combined with the Congregation Or Hadash Choir in Fort Washington, conducted by Josh McGugh, to sing numerous songs related to the Holocaust. One of the songs was Acheinu, a haunting melody and 11th century prayer that is now being sung all over the world by Jews for the release of the Israeli hostages from Gaza. Dr. Daniel Schwarz shared the story of his mother's survival from the Holocaust and Rabbi Benjamin David shared his grandmother's story and Rabbi Alanna Sklover shared the story of her grandmother. The event was attended by over 150 people in person and many others viewed this event on-line. This event represents the fourth collaboration between the two synagogues. Lise Marlow, new Education Director from the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center (HAMEC) spoke of the ongoing Holocaust education mission of the museum that is housed at KI.
