Outdoor Havurah Hike

Our next OH Hike is scheduled for this Saturday, April 30th at 2:00 PM.  It will be in the Wissahickon (leaving from Rittenhouse Town) led by Ted Apple, our own FOW guide. Parking may be limited.  Please see Ted's description of the hike below.  PLEASE RSVP to Debbie Levin; she will notify you of any changes. dlevin39@comcast.net or 610 955-3300.

A moderate hike with some rocky hill climbs and paths.  The hike will start in Rittenhouse Town at the beginning of the Orange Trail, then go down to Forbidden Drive crossing the creek on the Bluestone Bridge, then up a hill to follow the Yellow Trail to Lover's Leap and on to the Kelsius Cave.  We will then backtrack and, as time and energy permit, follow the Yellow Trail along the west crest of the park until we go back down to Forbidden Drive to return to our cars.  Rocky Trails, climbs and dips.  Hiking poles recommended along with sturdy shoes.  No bathrooms!

Parking is at the entrance to the Orange Trail - go through Rittenhouse Town and up a gravel road on the right just before the road crosses a little bridge and gets to 10 box.  (See map.)  Parking is near the Paper Trail Bike Cafe (papertrailbikecafe.com) Their site shows a good map.  You can also park on Lincoln Drive, cross the little creek into Rittenhouse Town and walk up the hill, or park on Wissahickon Ave.., walking into the park.  This adds about 3 tenths of a mile.

To help people find their way around the park, there is now a map app for the park.  Download the FOW Map App for a park tour. The app includes a free, interactive map of the park with trails, parking, amenities and points of interest, as well as audio tours with FOW Trail Ambassadors on the Wissahickon’s history, geology, and nature you can take anytime. Get started when you're next in the park at fow.org/mapapp.
