A Fund for Every Purpose
Whenever you make a contribution to Or Hadash, you can specify to which fund you wish to direct your gift.
Below are the various fund that we have, select one to read more.
General Fund
A Contribution to the general fund provides the congregation leadership with maximum flexibility to use the funds.
Legacy for Learning
Initially established in honor of the retirement of Rabbi Vivian Schirn, the LEGACY FOR LEARNING fund supports life-long education activities and initiatives.
The Combined Fund: Torah, Prayer books & Library
To purchase or repair our Sefer Torahs and related expenses; to purchase (or repair) prayer books, to acquire and maintain the main library.
The Holocaust Education Funds
Through the generosity of Carolyn and Alan Lindy, our two Holocaust Education Funds support Holocaust-related programming in the school and in the larger congregation.
Barbara Siegel Israel Fund
Funds to augment core Israel program expenditures. Such programs will be in support of Israel but not in support of any political party of candidate.
Fund for Rabbinic Excellence
Dedicated to honor Rabbi Joshua Waxman for 15 years of devoted service to our synagogue, this fund that provides funds ongoing professional growth and development opportunities for the rabbi at Or Hadash (or a rabbinic intern).
Inclusion Fund
Funds to support education and modifications to make the congregation as inclusive as possible.
Confirmation Fund
The fund supports the Confirmation class’s culminating activities, which typically include a trip to a Jewish education teen program in Washington, DC
Life Cycle Garden Fund
Support the upkeep and maintenance of the Life Cycle Garden
Joan & Ben Dickstein Scholar in Residence Fund
This fund allows Or Hadash to bring a respected authority on Jewish issues of interest to our adult community.

Other Giving Opportunities
Renew & Sustain Annual Campaign
Although the dues, fees and tuition our members pay annually is significant, it does not cover our entire budget.
As a result, we also hold an annual campaign, called Renew & Sustain. We ask each household to contribute additional funds according to their means. We are grateful for every additional dollar and we are blessed to have a congregant who matches each dollar contributed to R&S. Our goal is 100% participation.

Donations in Honor of Others
Build community by honoring the achievements & milestones of fellow congregants and loved ones! It is a lovely way to celebrate someone. Make a donation to one of our funds in someone’s honor! The person is notified that you have made a donation in their honor.
Donations in Memory of Loved Ones
In Jewish tradition we mark the years since a loved one dies and the anniversary of that date on the Jewish calendar is the yahrzeit. Among the Jewish traditions that help us to commemorate a loved one’s yahrzeit are lighting a memorial candle at home at sundown, reciting kaddish, and giving tzedakah in a loved one’s memory. At OH, weremind you whenever the yahrzeit of a loved one approaches.
Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund
Rabbi Alanna has a confidential fund to assist members of the Or Hadash community or the wider community who are in need, to give gifts in celebration of simchas, and to make charitable donations to causes the Rabbi selects. If you need assistance from the fund, please contact Rabbi Alanna directly.
Donations to the Discretionary Fund: Donations can be made for any reason (examples include: to mark a death or yahrzeit, to celebrate a birth or b’nei mitzvah, in appreciation for rabbinic services) but the donor cannot specify the recipient or intended cause. To donate to the fund, MEMBERS can log into ShulCloud or send a check marked “RDF.” NON-MEMBERS can donate to the Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund by check or through our Zeffy platform.
Sponsor an Oneg or Kiddush
At the end of most services and life cycle celebrations, we serve an one or a kiddush. These can include a wide range of refreshments.
Oneg literally means delight, and it is always a delight to schmooze with members of our community after joining together to pray, sing, learn and celebrate. Community members sponsor onegs and kidddushes when they wish to honor someone or mark a milestone or occasion in a special way.
There is no set fee to sponsor an oneg or kiddush – it depends on what you have in mind! Please contact Rabbi Erin to customize a sponsorship opportunity.
